Radiofrequency (RF) eye treatment is a nonsurgical, in-office procedure primarily used to tighten the skin around the eyes for aesthetic purposes. However, it’s now being adopted to treat dry eye as well. Dry eye occurs when the quantity and quality of tears decrease, leading to insufficient eye moisture. One common cause is meibomian gland dysfunction (MGD), where the meibomian glands around the eyelids fail to produce enough oil. During RF treatment, a handheld device delivers energy waves into the skin, heating the inner layer. This stimulates collagen production and helps restore meibomian gland function, improving dry eye symptoms. The technique is generally safe, minimally invasive, and suitable for all skin colors. If you’re experiencing dry eye, consider discussing RF treatment with your eye care professional

TempSure® Envi is an FDA-approved technology that uses noninvasive radiofrequency (RF) to address both aesthetic concerns and Meibomian gland dysfunction (MGD), a common cause of dry eye. Here’s how it works:

  1. Understanding MGD:
    • MGD occurs when the oil-secreting glands in the eyelids fail to produce enough oil, leading to insufficient eye moisture.
    • Symptoms include irritation, redness, blurred vision, and light sensitivity.
  2. TempSure® Envi Treatment for MGD:
    • By gently heating the skin with RF, TempSure® Envi raises the skin’s temperature.
    • This controlled heat stimulates the body’s natural collagen production and unclogs tear glands.
    • The result: improved tear production and relief from dry eye symptoms.
  3. Additional Benefits:
    • TempSure® Envi can also enhance the tightness of the skin around the eyes and diminish fine lines.
    • The procedure is typically safe, effective, and comfortable, with minimal downtime required.

Remember to consult with your eye care professional to determine if TempSure® Envi is suitable for your specific case.

Meibomian gland dysfunction (MGD) occurs when the oil-secreting glands in your eyelids don’t produce enough oil or produce poor-quality oil. These glands, called meibomian glands, play a crucial role in maintaining eye health by contributing to the oily layer of your tear film. When MGD occurs, it can lead to dry eye syndrome and other issues. Symptoms may include itchy or burning eyes, redness, swollen eyelids, and blurred vision.

The oil in the meibomian glands doesn’t actually harden; rather, it becomes thick and obstructed. These glands, located along the edge of your eyelids, produce an oil called meibum. Meibum, along with water and mucus, forms the three layers of the tear film that keeps your eyes moist and healthy. When these glands become blocked, it can lead to a condition called Meibomian Gland Dysfunction (MGD). MGD can cause symptoms like itchy or burning eyes, redness, swollen eyelids, and blurred vision. Factors like gland blockage and the quality of the oil produced can lead to this condition. The dynamic action of blinking helps to release meibum onto the back edge of the eyelid, safeguarding the eyelids and forming a seal when the eyes are closed. Should you have ongoing symptoms, it is advisable to seek an eye care professional for an appropriate assessment and treatment.
